Joke (Johanna) van den Noort-Kok, born in 1950, is entirely self-taught.
She started in 1978 with pen-drawings, gouaches and aquarel(watercolor)paintings.
After a few years she switched to work with acryllic paint on paper, panels and canvas by using mixed techniques, mostly with the pure paint
Determing for the realization of a painting is most of the times the mood of the moment, an emotion or a certain feeling.
The mostly abstract paintings come with a spontanious freedom. The abstraction is not a leak of power or a denial of reality, but only to get a more purer grip on it and to obtain a greater symbolic freedom to express her thoughts and feelings into colors.
Her painting activities were formed at Artibron in Zwolle with Dien Remerie and Jenny Jansen. Since 1984 she is an active member of 'Atelier Swolla 83', a group of painters from several regions in the Netherlands lead by Ben Vernimmen from Bennekom (master at the Rietveldt Academy). Every three weeks they have a creative meeting in Zwolle.
Aquarel-inspirations are mostly given when sailing on the Waddensea aboard the twomastlugger 'Mars', owned by skipper Jan Velthuis and Riny Bus, both aquarelpainters too.
Joke had exhibitions in Galerie De Wilg in Gersloot, Galerie Artopa in Lisse, Conferentiecentrum Woudschoten in Zeist and with 'Atelier Swolla 83' several times in the Broerenkerk in Zwolle.
